In the engine repair work, it is often necessary to install and remove the custom heavy duty roller chain and sprocket, which is an important link in the engine repair process. Whether the installation is correct directly affects the whole engine repair quality. If you are slightly negligent in the work, it will cause the engine to start difficult, or even unable to start. When installing and removing timing chains and sprockets, the following points should be mastered:

(1) Remove the negative electrode of the battery from the cable.

(2) Remove the front cover of the engine and the parts that hinder the operation.

(3) Turn the bend, so that the 1st cylinder piston is in the position of compression top dead center, align the timing mark on the camshaft and crankshaft sprocket, there are two timing marks on the camshaft sprocket, one is the 1st cylinder piston is in the top dead center timing mark, then the 1st cylinder intake valve and exhaust valve are in the closed position; The second is that the 4th cylinder piston is in the top dead center timing mark, when the 4th cylinder intake valve and exhaust valve are in the closed position. Be sure to find out which cylinder piston is at the top dead center of compression.

(4) Remove the bolts on the camshaft sprocket, remove the timing chain and camshaft sprocket

(5) If the crankshaft sprocket needs to be replaced, apply the puller to remove the sprocket. When installing the new sprocket, the chain and chain groove should be aligned to prevent loosening.

(6) Install the chain on the camshaft sprocket, fix the sprocket, make the chain suspended, align the timing mark on the camshaft and crankshaft sprocket. Align the locating pin holes on the sprocket with the locating pin holes on the camshaft, and then install the sprocket on the camshaft. Camshaft sprocket bolt tightening torque is 20N·M.

(7) Lubricate the timing sprocket and chain with oil.

(8) Turn the crankshaft twice to check whether the engine timing mark is aligned. If the timing mark is not aligned, repeat the preceding steps.

If there is no timing mark on the camshaft gear, the following points should be noted during installation:

(1) Install the crankshaft sprocket.

(2) Install the timing chain damping plate on the cylinder block.

(3) Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket with the timing mark on the bottom of the timing damping plate.

(4) The timing chain is suspended, the camshaft sprocket is fixed, and the timing chain is installed on the crankshaft gear.

(5) Align the center line of the positioning hole on the camshaft sprocket with the timing mark on the top of the timing chain damping plate.

(6) Align the positioning pin on the camshaft with the positioning hole on the camshaft sprocket. Install the sprocket on the camshaft and tighten the bolts to a torque of 100N·M.

(7) Lubricate the timing chain and sprocket with oil.

(8) Turn the crankshaft twice to check whether the engine timing mark is aligned. If the timing mark is not aligned, repeat the operation according to the above operation points.

The above is my experience based on the installation and removal of timing chain and sprocket should pay attention to the details.
